Water and Saliva: A No Exercise Weight Loss Technique

Saliva – Ever wondered how precious it is? Like many of us, I was unaware of all the benefits of this magical watery fluid secreted twenty-four hours continuously inside our mouth, until I discovered its magical benefits from an ancient Āyurveda book called Ashtānga hridayasamhitā  (Heart of Medicine) written by one of the most influential writers of ĀyurvedaMaharishi VāgbhataĀyurveda is a system of medicine with historical roots in the Indian subcontinent. Āyurveda is one of the earliest branches of medical science, which is followed by a large number of people in India and all over the world, especially people who are into practicing Yoga.

After reading about how just changing the way we drink water can help us lose weight without exercise and address other common problems like bloating and acidity, I got very excited to experiment with it. My husband and I started following this method of drinking water and guess what only within few days of practicing both of us saw significant changes in our body. Bloating was gone, we lost few inches around our belly, felt very light as our stomach was happy!

Drink Water one Sip at a time!

Our stomach is Acidic in nature because it has Hydrochloric acid in it which helps in the digestion of the food. Saliva in our mouth is Alkaline in nature and its job is to stabilize the acid in our stomach. When we gulp a large amount of water at once very less saliva gets mixed with the water so the atmosphere inside the stomach remains acidic. This causes acidity, indigestion, bloating, gases, etc. and ultimately it causes weight gain and increases the cholesterol levels because stomach fails to absorb essential nutrients from the food that we eat and remove unwanted material out of the body. In short by drinking water in a wrong way, we are disturbing the natural process of the digestive system.

Change The Habit

When we drink water one sip at a time, more saliva gets mixed with the water which makes water alkaline and when it reaches the stomach – which is acidic in nature – it creates a Neutral atmosphere inside the stomach which is an ideal state for our stomach which eases and aides the entire digestive process.

Nature is The Best Teacher

Have you ever noticed how birds and animals drink water? If not then observe the next time you get a chance and you will notice that they take one sip at a time and drink it. In this way every time their tongue gets wet their saliva mixes with the water. Nature is smarter than we think!

Scientific Research is also in Motion

In the late 19th century, researchers had already learned that saliva had digestive powers. Studies in the early 20th century had also shown some evidence of the dietary effect of saliva, and now a recent study has confirmed on the medicinal properties of the saliva. Some researchers have found that a simple saliva test is capable of diagnosing diabetes and cancer at an early stage, and perhaps neurological disorders and autoimmune diseases too because saliva contains many of the same disease-revealing molecules that are contained in our blood!

So now, it’s a time to take our Saliva seriously because we often don’t realize how important something is until it’s too late.

Let That Holy Liquid Flow Inside Your Body!

Now you must be wondering how exactly should I drink water?

You probably already know that it is very important that you should drink enough water every day, to keep your body hydrated and remove toxins out of your body. You should always drink water at room temperature or lukewarm water. Never drink cold water. (Why? I am going to write about that very soon. Maybe I already have, please check my other posts).

This is what you should do:

First, take one sip of water at a time in your mouth. Rinse and swish the water in your mouth (as if you are using mouthwash) and let the saliva in your mouth mixed with the water, and then drink it. Repeat the process until you finish your glass of water and do this every time you drink water. Pretend like you are drinking hot tea or coffee and drink your water sip by sip. Remember that “Slow and Steady Wins the Race”. It will be difficult and even a bit frustrating (yes, it was for my husband) when you first start to do this. It took about a week for me to get used to this technique.

What transformation will you see within a month?

  1. Your waistline will be reduced by few inches.
  2. Bloating will be completely gone.
  3. Your digestion will be improved.
  4. No acidity.
  5. Your bowel movements will be smoother.
  6. You will feel lighter and more energetic.
  7. Overall fat deposition tendency of your body will reduce over time.

    1. Hello Bhavya, thank you for your comment. Whatever I have written in this post, I have tried and experienced it. Do give it a try and see the results by yourself. With Consistency and patience you will be able to see its results within few days. Just observe your body consciously everyday, you will definitely notice changes in your body. This conscious observation will motivate you to be consistent. It is a very natural way of drinking water without any side effect so why not give it a try. All the best to you.

    1. Hello Bhargavi, I am glad that you liked my post. With continued practice, you will definitely see the results. Observe your body, from my experience within fifteen days you should feel lightness in your body. This method does work. You will have to be patient because results may vary person to person and remember consistency is the key.

  3. An easy step to help with weight loss is to eat more frequently. Frequent small meals are easier for your body to digest. The frequency also helps you to never get hunger. If you avoid hunger you are more likely to eat good foods. The smaller, frequent meals also keep your blood sugar from spiking.
